1. A) If Bq = 1 decay/second, and the nuclear reactor has 3200 x 1015 Bq of Iodine-131, then that means that there are 3200 x 1015 decays/second. For each decay from iodine-131 to xenon-131, 1.55 x 10-13 joules are released. By multiplying 3200 x 1015 by 1.55 x 10-13, there is 496,000 W of energy released in the reactor core every second due only to I-131 decay. B) 496,000 W/100 W = 49,600 W 49,600 W light bulbs could be lit using the power from I-131 decay in the reactor core. C) 49,600 W / 3 half-lives = 6200 W There is 6200 W of power that will still be produced by iodine-131 decay at the end of the month. D) There will be approximately 6 W of power in the core after 10 half-lives have passed.
2. A) Bio-fuels are a renewable energy sources made from living things or the waste that living things produce. The reason for which bio fuels such as biodiesel and ethanol are renewable is because that since there is an unlimited resource of the following materials this makes it a renewable resource. B) Ethanol produced form sugar beats in current crops are almost carbon neutral. As long as there is no fossil fuels used in the process while growing and harvesting crops, there are no CO2 produced therefore making it carbon-neutral.

Therefore the capacity factor is 5.365GW C) The low capacity could mean two things. One being that there might be something wrong with the dam therefore allowing to loose efficiency. And two due to poor operations of the dam this could cause a lower capacity factor.
4. Due to the densely populated boreal forest 500 km from shore major construction would have to occur in order for this energy to reach Labrador. The first major project would be the plowing and deforestation of the land, which would destroy many habitats and homes for animals. During the process of plowing casualties of animals would also occur. This could possibly result in a disruption of the food chain because animals would be forced to find other homes in another part of the forest.
